Health Committee

The Health Committee is designed to improve the health of Parishioners in Thika Parish. Te Thika Parish Health Committee group targets all the members through creating awareness on prevalent health problems such as HIV/AIDS, typhoid fever, malaria, respiratory diseases and nutritional deficiencies among others.

In each congregation there is Health Committee and then one Parish Health Committee where the group fits. The health committee functions under the PCEA Church health board established in 1969 for running the Church hospitals.

Since  its  inception Thika  Parish  Health  Committee  has  been  undertaking  various  activities  like checking blood pressure, blood sugar, visiting patients in nearby hospitals like Thika District Hospital, donating drugs, blankets and foodstuffs, organizing free medical clinics and health education seminars. The health committee has also sponsored two community health workers for training in home based care who are actively involved in HIV/AIDS advocacy in the parish.
